Trevor Hansen Makes it Rain

This photo was taken when I was living at his new house in Groveland.
It was a slow night, Trevor and I had been messing around with some studio stuff earlier in the day. The forecast was for thunderstorms in the evening. We were sitting around in his living room when the heavy rain hit.
Trevor had the idea to take a shot in the rain using a flash. It sounded cool so we headed outside and snapped a few off.
They looked unreal. I was even able to catch some lightning in a few of the shots. This was our favorite shot.

Rusty and I have been trying to get a 1080 sequence since he landed his first one. Things just haven’t lined up right until this one.
Everything did line up here: double up driver, chase boat driver, rider, filmers, and photographers.
The irony is that this happened one session after double or nothing…
During which no one landed a 1080.

Gabe was in Orlando for a few days hanging out with various friends. I was heading out to Andrew Adkison’s house to shoot him and Corey Bradley.
I had talked to Gabe about riding and he was in on it. There were isolated thunderstorms in the Orlando area making a beautiful sunset.
The tall thunder heads grew up in excess of what looked like 40,000FT MSL.
As the storms passed, the sky cleared towards the west giving us the opportunity to shoot some last minute silhouettes.
We were shooting from a chase boat when I snapped off this shot. We both liked the shot a lot and decided it was standerd material.

Mr. Harf has been a bit quiet these days, but his riding still speaks volumes. We met up one morning out in Clermont, the same morning Henshaw’s “photo of the year” shot was done.
Danny wanted to get this trick off the double up, saying that he thought it would look good from a certain spot because the way his body rotates off the top.
At first, I wasn’t sure what exactly the trick was or what he was trying but valued his opinion and got to the spot where he wanted me.
After he did a few, he was exactly right. He put me in the right spot for the trick to look its best. He stuck it everytime, so sick.
Riders with that talent, make my job easy.

Labor day weekend. The last big weekend of the summer.
Every lake, river, pond and beach is packed with people. Lucky for my dad, most of the people stay up late and party.
He likes to wake up early, drive his boat out into the fog covered lake and find where it’s clearing and hit the water with his feet.
I rarely get up and go when he does, so this was a special day for me to be up.
He slides down the boom that sticks out the side of the boat. Grabs a handle that has 5 ft of rope tied off to the end of the boom. Swings out, and yells “SPEED UP” so he can do his toe hold, and stick his arms out like he’s flying (cause he kinda is). Then he slaps the water his one foot is spraying up, what a way to wake up!
This Photo says it all!

Shane Bonifay Helps Lift the Fog

Seems like more and more I am finding myself making the trek out to Clermont these days.
If you didn’t get the memo…it’s the place to live for wakers.
On this particular morning, I was greeted with a big blanket of fog over all of Lake Minnehaha. At first I remembered being so pissed, because it was blue skies all the way there and then was socked in when I pulled up.
Those old dock pilings always jumped out at me every time I drive in. I pulled over and was shooting some personal pics of the scene when Shane rode up on his bike.
I asked to walk out on one of them. He saw my vision and gladly obliged. Thanks Shane.

“The most insane/sick/rediculous/pimp photo of any wakeboarder I have ever seen!”
If I had a nickel for every time I’ve heard that, I’d have a lot of nickels by now. I saw Kevin Henshaw do this trick and was blown away. In fact, originally I saw a photo that someone else took similar but the angle didn’t do it justice and the photo sucked.
I was determined to recapture it the proper way and quickly spoke to Henny about redoing it. We talked it over and I explained to him what I was going to try to do, he just had to do it over and over again until we got a good one.
The whole set that morning, that’s nearly the only trick he did. One after another, after another.
I floated in the water, like I’ve been doing a lot lately, and had the driver pass by in front of me. When we first started, the distances that the boat was driving wasn’t working out.
Once that was dialed, I had to get Henny to cut at the wake at just the right time. The first couple passes I was getting to much of the bottom of the board which didn’t allow the viewer to see his body positioning correctly. To me, that was to whole dope-ness of the trick.
I told Henshaw to take a breather for a bit so we could talk it over then try again. Finally, he began to line it up just right. He had to go completely past where I was floating, then edge in before it was to late and he was to far from me.
This angle is pretty much completely behind him, yet still on the side of the wake that he cut in from. You can see the where the rope is going.
His body is rotated back towards me and away from the boat. As he patiently waited to cut in for each attempt, I saw it getting better and better. I knew I was close.
I think this was about the third pass-by with the correct timing when we nailed it. I saw this one and was super stoked, but had him do a few more for insurance sake. That way we had a few to choose from and were able to pick the best option.
I was happy and confident with a few of them. I gave him the “pat on the head,” signaling that we were done.
I got in the boat, did some high-fiving, and he asked, “you think we got it?”
“Hell yeah,” I said.
“Good,” he replied. “‘Cause my hips are killing me.”

This summer I teamed up with Sean Kilgus and BFY to capture images for the new wake DVD Drive.
Kilgus and crew came to Arizona for some desert backdrop and Bartlett Lake Marina was happy to supply the team with houseboat accomodations for the week.
Sean, Randall and I posted up on a rocky hillside as the rest of the crew set up for a double up session. I snapped this photo of Randall getting his zen in line in anticipation of his set.

Collin Harrington Signs His Life Away

To tell you the truth…I don’t remember what he was doing right there.
I had my xpan and just set it on the table in front of him.
I snapped a couple frames. Oh yeah, just remembered…
He was signing a disclaimer for the crazy Red Bull Blackout stunt that involved two helicopters, a bunch of boats and complete darkness.
